about portrait sessions
When you schedule a portrait session with Barb the world is your oyster. There are her lush gardens and koi pond just a tip toe through her natural light studio. There are beautiful New England backdrops such as the majestic beach, dramatic fall foliage, or your own backyard. And, if you love documentary photography consider hiring Barb to shoot ‘a day in the life’ of your children in the comfort of your home. Barb has been shooting portraits for twenty years and has a theory or two for the success of a portrait shoot. The most important one being that everyone be relaxed. She knows how much time and effort is taken to get ready for a shoot, but she would like you to walk through her doors and turn it all over to her without a worry. If the kids are having fun and are relaxed they will have the best expressions and show themselves for who they are. She shoots color and black and white as each scene dictates. She never counts how many frames she takes, her theory is ‘I shoot until I feel I have ‘it’ and then I shoot a little more.’ The other essential part to a photo session is the light and the moment. To Barb, your portrait session is not just another session. It is an extension of who she is as an artist and her years of training and dedication. No shortcuts are taken and she will not rest until she can find the light and the moment (preferably together) culminating in what she refers to as ‘magical’ imagery. There is little delineation between your goal and hers. After the portrait session you will be invited to the studio to view your session culminating in a beautiful slide show unless you had a 'mini' portrait session in which case you will review on line. Once you have identified your favorites we will guide you with decisions and options for your custom designed final prints and albums. Please view the storyboard portfolio.
